Our History
On March 19, 2008, I began uploading potato quality home videos to a new website called YouTube. This developed over the years and in 2017 I discovered a passion for making outdoor edits with an emphasis on kayak camping. I was hooked after rampaging down the Medina River for the first time and wanted to share that experience with the world. The river trips were incredible, exploring veins of public land in an otherwise inaccessible place. Showing rustic exploration in a state known for little public land would hopefully inspire others to check out their home region.
There was one key piece of gear that was brought on every mission, dry bags. We found this type of equipment to be essential for protecting the integrity of our gear while charging through remote places. After running through 10+ dry bags over several years, I got to thinking…how could I take my experiences on the river and implement them into a high fidelity offering via product design?
Remote Designs was established to deliver dry bags that are purpose built for technical pursuits like kayak camping, fly fishing, hunting, and travel. You'll notice each year the product changes ever so slightly, the result of tapping into feedback from customers and being a 'mom & pop shop'. Design will remain at the forefront of all development projects into the future.
In 2020, the Remote Designs Dry Backpack and 20L Roll Top were launched with overwhelming support from the community. You all are astounding and I am so thankful! After quickly running through stock I was inspired to expand the lineup and began product development on the waterproof hip pack.
With each product launch I aim to deliver functionality and durability. After all, Remote Designs mission is to encourage everyone to explore their backyard and beyond.
Kayak camping created lifelong friends, took me to places I never thought I’d go, and taught me a lot about myself. It is the driving reason why Remote Designs exists. My goal is to encourage others to find their appreciation for the outdoors. Time to unlock new terrain and end wet gear at camp!
Remote Designs Product Timeline:
2020: Remote Designs is founded and 2 products are launched; the Green 27L Dry Backpack + Orange 20L Roll Top.
2021: 27L Dry Backpack is restocked and a new color way is introduced, tan! A 5L Dry Hip Pack is also introduced in both Green and Tan.
2022: After another sell out in 2021, the 27L Dry Backpack, 5L Dry Hip Pack, and 20L Roll Top Dry Bag are restocked for the last time before a redesign.
2023: The 60L Dry Duffel is released in May after spending over a year in development! Production of a 26L Roll Top Backpack commences with a release date of July 2023. Development of a unique closure system submersible backpack and hip pack commence with targeted release in 2024. Lots of big things going on!
